1st Puerto Rican Senate
The First Puerto Rican Senate was the first meeting of senators of the Senate of Puerto Rico elected as part of the legislative branch of their government. The Senate of Puerto Rico came to be after the signing of the Jones-Shafroth Act in 1917, which prompted elections to be held in July 6, 1917. The Senate met from August 13, 1917 to January 2, 1920. The Senate had a majority of members from the Union of Puerto Rico party, and Antonio R. Barceló was chosen as President.
